Building 48 is Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Fire Department and Emergency Operations Center. This 2,500 square foot addition and renovation project included a new entry lobby, new dormitory addition, and new access corridor from the dormitory to the apparatus building. The existing firehouse was completely renovated, new private and open offices were created utilizing the Herman Miller furniture system, accessibility improved, a new communications room added, and the building seismically upgraded to an Essential Services Facility. A new retaining wall protects the building from the steep slope to the rear.
